Senior pitcher Matt Villanueva led the Anson Tigers to a game one win over district rival Stamford on Thursday with a one-hit shutout.

The Tigers would get on the board first when Stetson Meek came home on a passed ball to put Anson on top 1-0.

Stamford pitcher Gus West would get a strike-out to end the Tiger threat, and the top of the first inning.

That one run would be enough for Villanueva on Thursday. The Tigers ace went on to strike out 14 Bulldogs, including sitting down the last 20 batters he saw, en route to a 2-0 victory.

The Tigers now need just one win on Saturday to punch their ticket to the state tournament in Round Rock.
