Wylie at Full Strength Ahead of State

June 28th, 2017 - The State 7-on-7 Championships start Thursday down in College Station for Division II.

Three Big Country teams are headed south including the Wylie Bulldogs. Winning state in baseball was a great thing for the school. Except for the fact that it kept some of the returning football players busy winning gold instead of playing 7-on-7. It's all good though. The Bulldogs are still state bound, and head coach Hugh Sandifer says it gives his guys a chance to get in some extra work.

"I think its been a good experience for us, because we played the first half of our league play out here with seven or eight kids that were on the baseball team not with us. So we got a lot of experience," Hugh Sandier said. "Then our baseball kids have come back out, played a tournament, going to get to go to the state tournament, so just hopefully they can get some play timing, a little bit of camaraderie and stay healthy. That's what I'm looking for."

The Bulldogs start the tournament Thursday at 2 p.m. against Needville. They are joined by Brownwood and Sweetwater. Abilene High and Cooper start Friday.
