2013 Player to Watch: Josh Moylan

In 2012 the Eastland Mavericks had double digit wins for the second straight year and returned to the regional finals. One of the main reasons for that success was the play of their quarterback Josh Moylan.

Last season as a junior Moylan threw for just under 25-hundred yards and 26 touchdowns. Now after a lot of work in seven-on-seven and off-season workouts, Moylan is ready for a big senior season.

"We do a huge 7on7. We take that to our passing game, and that's something that is really helped us out a lot. Summer workouts every morning, we're here Monday through Thursday. Trying to get better and trying to get to that point where we can get past the quarterfinals," said Josh Moylan.

This will also be Moylan's fourth year on varsity, and that experience is just one of the intangibles he brings to the mavericks.

"It's a big bonus having a guy that's started for you at quarterback for 14 weeks. Not just that, being on varsity for his fourth year. An experienced kid coming back. He's been there, and been through a lot of games. It's important to have that and particularly at the quarterback position," said head coach Brian Hulett.

While Moylan is ready for another big year under center in Eastland, he's focused more on his team's success rather than his own.

"Just be a good leader for the team, and play to the best of my ability to give us the best shot to win.  Personal goals, you can set them aside. Your team is what really matters and how people will remember you is by how good your team is," said Moylan.

Their are high expectations again this year in Eastland, and the Mavericks will likely go as far as Josh Moylan will take them. That makes him a player to watch in 2013.
