68 Years Later: Remembering Victory Over Japan

It may be a day early, but veterans from around Abilene recognized a vital part of the World War II history Sunday afternoon.
It may be a day early, but veterans from around Abilene recognized a vital part of the World War II history Sunday afternoon.

The Abilene Veteran Foreign Wars division invited people that served in war and their families to celebrate, Victory Over Japan, or VJ or VP Day.

It was August 14, 1945 when Japan surrendered to the Allies and prompted the end of WWII. On September 2, Japan signed a treaty and formally surrendered.

Although no WWII veterans were present in the ceremony, they weren't forgotten.
