An Abilene man is in jail for possessing nearly 71 grams of methamphetamine and 20 grams of marijuana.
An Abilene man is in jail for possessing nearly 71 grams of methamphetamine and 20 grams of marijuana.

Harman Benitez Jr., 29, was sent to the Taylor County Jail Friday afternoon after police found meth, marijuana, and a pistol in his vehicle. According to the police report, Benitez was contacted by the police on the 4400 block of Don Juan Street while investigating a burglary of a motor vehicle.

While police were speaking to him, a marijuana joint fell out of Benitez' pocket. Police searched the vehicle and found 70.8 grams of methamphetamine and 20 grams of marijuana. Police also located a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol.

According to the report, Benitez got off probation in March 2010, making him a felon in possession of a firearm. Benitez was charged with 1st Degree Felony Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance with Methamphetamine, Class B Possession of Marijuana and 3rd Degree Possession of Firearm by Felon.

As of Saturday afternoon, he's still at the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $785,000.
