She decided that she wanted to help children out that may not have any gifts under the tree. She recalls growing up in Abilene and the struggles her and her family faced around the holidays. She remembers being thrilled by getting a paper bag filled with fruit and peanuts as a Christmas present from the church she attended.
Jessica posted her idea for a Christmas celebration on Facebook, and within hours, many people had offered their help. She has collected a few donations from individuals, as well as from Wally's Party Supply and La Popular Bakery.
Her plan is to have a visit from Santa, candy, and what toys she can get donated at 2347 North 6th Street on Christmas day from 2pm-4pm. The event will take place near the store Material Girls in the Sunshine Plaza. Everyone is welcome at the event.
While she has collected enough donations for the candy she plans to give out, she could still use some toys for the children. The toys do not have to be wrapped or brand new, just anything that you think that a child that may not get anything for Christmas will enjoy.
The donations can be dropped off at the La Popular bakery off Pine Street from 8am to 2pm tomorrow.
