Abilene Police: Nothing to Worry About at Abilene High School

Abilene police asked media to assure the public that there was no danger to student safety following reports of an incident at Abilene High School Thursday morning.
Abilene police asked media to assure the public that there was no danger to student safety following reports of an incident at Abilene High School Thursday morning.

A prank phone call ignited rumors of a possible shooting, however, police and Abilene ISD officials say the reports were false, and students were never in danger.

Parents were contacted by the school's emergency call-out system corresponding with policy guidelines following the 911 call.

Students were held in classroom lockdown temporarily as a precautionary measure, but at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, AISD spokesman Phil Ashby said the school's schedule resumed as normal.

APD was able to locate the phone the call was made from, along with the suspect who was taken into custody and will face charges. The suspect is possibly facing the charge of making a terroristic threat.
