At about 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, September 19, 2013, an adult male bank robbery suspect
entered the Compass bank in the 1000 block of North 3rd Street and communicated his demand for money from
a bank teller. The robbery was thwarted and the attempted robbery suspect left the scene with no money.
A preliminary description of the suspect, and a possible getaway vehicle, were relayed to the public via our media
partners who responded to the crime scene area last Thursday. The incident scene was secured by officers of the Abilene Police Department’s (APD) Patrol Division. Detectives and forensic investigators with the Criminal
Investigation Division responded and began a joint investigation with agents with the Federal Bureau of
This news release, accompanied with some bank surveillance imagery, is being provided for media consumption
in hopes that a concerned citizen who may have witnessed this event, or have any information about this crime,
will come forward. Citizens are reminded that this incident occurred moments before 1 p.m. last Thursday
afternoon during a cloudy day with light rain showers. Based on information gathered, the suspect left the bank
and got into a silver vehicle that was parked near the bank building. The vehicle is believed to have fled east on
North 3rd Street (a one-way street) towards Pine Street.
The two images provided show what investigators believe is a white male suspect, approximately age 50, with a
short grey beard. The imagery also shows the suspect wearing a blue wind breaker and a white baseball hat.
