Abilene Stores Gathering Supplies for Children's Literacy Kits

Abilene United stores are gathering supplies for children's literacy kits.
United Way of Abilene and United Supermarkets have partnered together to make sure that area kindergarten students are prepared with a K-Ready Kids early reader literacy kit. From July 28th to August 17th, United Supermarkets stores in Abilene are collecting supplies for literacy kits.

Literacy kits include items for fine motor and emergent writing skills, as well as a new children’s book. Supplies, including scissors, glue, pencils, and paper, can be purchased at United Supermarkets and dropped in the blue donation barrel located in the front of the store. Cash donations will also be collected at each register.

“Starting school with the necessary tools is important for school success,” said Dr. Cathy Ashby, United Way of Abilene President/CEO. “We are so proud to participate in this partnership with United Supermarkets and their generous customers.”
United Way of Abilene is also prepared to do the shopping for you! Community members may text the word IMPACT to 80088 to donate $10.*

In 2012, United Way of Abilene was able to distribute 110 K-Ready Kids literacy kits to area elementary schools. If you are seeking school supply assistance, please contact your school counselor.
