The unemployment rate in Abilene, as well as the state of Texas, has fallen since June of 2013 and even farther since July of last year.
Abilene’s unemployment rate fell 0.2 points this July from June of 2013, falling from 5.7 percent to 5.5 percent.
Overall, the number of people employed in the Abilene metro area in July was around 80,800, which was up from 80,400 in June, and up from 79,500 in July 2012.
The number of unemployed people in the Abilene metro area in July was 4,700, down from 4,900 in June, and 5,100 in July 2012.
The Texas economy added 19,900 seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs in July for a total of 293,000 jobs added since July 2012. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady in July at 6.5 percent. Texas’ unemployment rate remained below the nation’s July unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.
