The Abilene High Eagles look this week to get back in the win column against their rivals, the Cooper Cougars. BCH Sports' Eric Boynton caught up with head coach Steve Warren to how the Eagles can turn their season around, and the upcoming game against Cooper.

Eric Boynton said, "Coming off another tough loss, what do you're guys need to continue to work on this week going into what should be another tough district game? Not to mention it's Crosstown Showdown with everything else."

Steve Warren said, "I think the biggest thing is we've got to take the field as a confident football team. We can't let the past dictate the mentality with which we approach this game. It's a big game for a lot of reasons, but we need a win. We need to play well, and we need to hold onto the football and make good decisions with it. If we can do that, we'll give ourselves a chance to win."

Eric Boynton said, "How important is it to get out on the field and make some plays early? Whether that's the defense to get a turnover, or the offense score a touchdown. How important is it to do that?"

Steve Warren said, "Getting off to a fast start always fuels the fire a little bit. Certainly whether it's a special teams, or whatever it is, we certainly would like to be able to do that. Just getting back out there quickly gives you that opportunity, get that bad taste our of your mouth, and give yourself one more chance to win a game."

Eric Boynton said, "as a coach, with everything else that's going on, outside of football, in the schools, or just around town. What do you have to do to keep your guys focused on football, and what happens on the field?"

Steve Warren said, "We talk to them about, when it's time for football, it's time for football and let's focus on getting ourselves better and do that. We want them to enjoy the week. They can be a student, and enjoy the things that are going on  Not many people get to be part of a game like this. Certainly want our guys to enjoy it, but we also want to get prepared for a really good game."

The Eagles will take on the Cooper Cougars at Shotwell Stadium on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
