AHS Football: Conversation w/Steve Warren

David Robinett talked to Abilene High head coach Steve Warren about his teams loss to Hebron in Week 0.
David Robinett said, "It's a tough way to open a season. Playing a team that is really good, and then you have a bunch of guys that playing with very little experience. How do you get your guys up from that and moving forward?

AHS head coach Steve Warren said, "We have already done that, David. You've got to move forward, and you've got to do it fast. Everything points toward that district opener in a couple of weeks, and we've got a lot of work to do, there's no doubt. We take the positives from those games and take them with us and learn from the things we didn't do well and get better and see if we can do better against Duncanville and get us a win. Certainly, we need to go out there and improve.

Robinett asked, "Was it more, Hebron's good, or you guys made mistakes, or a little of both?"

Coach Warren said, "I think they exposed a lot of stuff. I was very impressed with the way they were coached up. Their athletes were in mid-season form, it looked like to me. We just weren't very consistent, and that a lot to do with us committing penalties and missing tackles. The great thing about that is they are all correctable.

Robinett asked, "Is the attitude still good?"

Coach Warren said, "Yeah, no doubt. Friday can't come fast enough. We want to get back on the grass and see how much better we've gotten this week in practice and see if we can't get us win on the road."
