Anson Ready For Title Clash With Stamford

The Anson Tigers are one win away from a district title, but standing their way is the Stamford Bulldogs in a game many in the area have waited an entire year to see.

The Tigers are by no means entering the game off their best performance of the season. A late touchdown and an extra point in overtime last week proved to be the difference in a 21-20 win over Forsan.

Now, Anson wants to prove that performance was an aberration.

"We talked about it at the end of the game. I was proud of the kids for fighting through it. It really wasn't our night, but we've put that behind us, We really don't feel like that's us. We really feel like we're a better football team than that, and we've just kind of got to move on," said head coach Kieth Woolf.

"We're trying to learn from it, I mean, it kind of woke us up and opened our eyes a little bit to not play like that. To do what we do, and do it to perfection," said Isaiah Garcia.

The next challenge for the Tigers is Stamford, and the first step is blocking out the pregame hype.

"We know it's a big game. We know we have to rise up to the challenge. There's a lot of hype going on. We've just got to learn how to ignore it and focus on us, That's all we can do this week," said Garcia.

"We're excited, the kids are excited, the town is excited, both towns are excited. So, It's going to be an exciting game. We just got to focus on what we do and try to get better each day in practice, and hopefully come out and execute on Friday night," said Woolf.

The Tigers and Bulldogs will kick-off at 7:30 on Friday night in Anson.
