APD: Friend Hears Woman Threatened Over Phone, Calls Police

Saturday morning at about 6:10 a.m., Officer Patrick Sumrall responded to a check-welfare call at the intersection of Buccaneer and Stratford Street. APD dispatch had been contacted by a concerned citizen reporting that she almost struck a maroon pickup truck that had stopped in the middle of the street after driving up to a stop sign. The concerned citizen informed dispatch that the male driver stopped, turned off his ignition and said the driver either fell asleep or passed out behind the wheel. Officer Sumrall located the involved vehicle at a stop sign in the 1300 block of Buccaneer Drive. Officer Sumrall contacted the male driver whom he described as passed-out in the truck. Officer Sumrall’s investigation revealed that the driver was intoxicated. The driver told Officer Sumrall that he had consumed medications and illicit narcotics. The driver was arrested. A search of the vehicle revealed a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Approximately 3.3 grams of methamphetamine, numerous ziploc-type bags, a scale and a baggie with other medications were seized. The driver was arrested for 2nd-degree felony Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) and for two misdemeanor offenses: Possession of Controlled Substance (alprazolam) and Public Intoxication.

Sunday afternoon at about 6 p.m., Officers Joe Plato and Jeremy Holmes responded to a disturbance call at a business in the 4300 block of Southwest Drive. APD dispatch had been notified by a store employee concerning an alleged theft involving a male subject that was refusing to identify himself while detained. Officers contacted the involved parties. The investigation revealed that the male subject had been contacted outside of the store by asset protection employees after leaving the store with unpaid merchandise. Approximately $144 in merchandise was recovered. The male subject was arrested for misdemeanor Theft and warned not to return to store premises.

Sunday night at about 9:30 p.m., Officers Jake Allred and Chris Volirakis responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 3800 block of Santa Monica Drive. APD dispatch had been contacted by a person claiming a female friend was on the phone and that an incident involving the female friend and her husband was in-progress and could be overheard by phone. The concerned friend reported that she heard the husband yelling at his wife and making threats while allegedly in possession of a firearm. Officers arrived and contacted the involved parties. The investigation revealed that the husband pointed a rifle at his spouse during a verbal altercation and placed the spouse in fear of imminent bodily injury. Witnesses were contacted during the investigation. A rifle was seized as part of the investigation. The victim requested an emergency protective order. The husband was arrested for felony Aggravated Assault (family violence). This investigation continues.
