A Haskell man was celebrated today for his contributions to the volunteer fire departments of Taylor county. Over the last 10 years Bill Steele has constructed affordable fire engines so that these departments could fight fires to their best ability, while staying within their budget. These departments gathered today in Buffalo Gap with all the engines that Steele had constructed. When Steele arrived to what he thought was a meeting, he was surprised by a group of satisfied fireman who wanted to give him something as a symbol of their appreciation. Steve Butman of Steve Butman Photography had volunteered his service and was there to take a portrait of Steele’s work. The picture will eventually hang at the Taylor county courthouse.
