Brownwood Falls In Quarters Of State 7-on-7 Tournament

The Brownwood Lions led the Big Country's contingent teams at the Division II State 7-on-7 tournament with an appearance in the quarterfinals.
The Brownwood Lions led the Big Country's contingent teams at the Division II State 7-on-7 tournament with an appearance in the quarterfinals.

After going 3-0 in pool play on Thursday, the Lions won 2 games before falling to Somerset by 1-point in overtime.

The Lions started the day by beating Lorena and Springtown by an average of 23 points a game. In the quarterfinals, they fell behind Somerset 20-0 in the 1st half. Brownwood battled back to force overtime with the score tied at 34.

Brownwood scored 1st with a touchdown pass from Chris Keesee to Braxton Kilgo. The PAT was missed, so Brownwood led 40-34.

Somerset answered with a Koy Detmer, Jr. touchdown pass, and he completed a pass for the game winning PAT.

Somerset wins, 41-40.

Bangs was the only other Big Country team in the Championship Bracket. They lost to Dallas Episcopal 33-26 in the 1st round.

Coleman won it's 1st game in the Consolation bracket, but lost in the round of 16.

Eastland and Wylie both lost their 1st round Consolation games.
