With Christmas around the corner many families are scrambling to try and afford gifts. Thankfully, people in Brown county have donated to the "Toys for Kids" drive that helps families in need this time of year.
Christmas can be a difficult time for many families who struggle to provide presents for their children. But, in Brown County a toy drive called, "Toys for Kids" was held Wednesday to help those families in need.
Many people from the community came out to help. The Toys for Kids drive has been going on for several years. Over the past two years, the two radio stations in Brownwood held a two stepping dance event. They compete to see who can bring in the most toys by the end of the day.
Even though it is a friendly competition, the goal for both stations is to provide toys for the children in the area.
Several people from the community came to help out. Guardian EMS was cooking hamburgers for people who brought toys. Soldiers from Camp Bowie also set out to collect money for the cause.
The event would not be possible without the generosity of the Brownwood residents. As of now, there are 600 families registered in the program and there are nearly 1,500 children. Organizers helped to collect and count all of the toys by late Wednesday afternoon. The organization Toys for Kids hopes there will be enough donations for each family to select three toys and a stocking stuffer. All of the toys will be distributed to the families on Saturday.
