Brownwood Special Teams Lead To Victory

The Brownwood Lions won their district opener against Burnet last week because of special teams.
We all hear football coaches talking about special teams and we immediately turn off the volume because we don't think it's important.

Not so fast, the Brownwood Lions won their district opener against Burnet last week because of special teams.

Caymon Ontavarios returned a kickoff with 14 seconds left in the game for the game winner.

It was the 2nd kickoff return of the game.

So, it turns out coaches know what they are talking about when they talk about the importance of special teams.

Head coach Chuck Howard said, "It was huge.  Everything from the 2 kickoff returns to Abraham Oviado, who's been under the fire this season for kickoffs and those type of things, he did so many great things Friday night including the field goal to put us back up. It put us in a great position for goal which is to win the district championship."

Brownwood continues District 8-3A play on Friday night against Liberty Hill. The Panthers are ranked 25th in the state.
