Coffee Club: How Do You Handle Arguments With Your Teen?

We're talking about arguments. Are you a "yeller", an "avoider", a "pleaser"? When dealing with your teenager, experts suggest all parents take the same stance with a disagreement.
While yelling at your teens may make you feel better, new research finds harsh verbal discipline may actually aggravate their bad behavior.

The study of nearly 1,000 families showed that teens whose parents shouted, cursed or verbally humiliated them were more likely to have depression symptoms than teens not disciplined this way.

Harsh verbal discipline was also linked to behavior problems -- like misbehaving in school, stealing, and fighting.

Experts say a better alternative is to have a discussion warning teens about the consequences of their behavior.
