Coffee Club: Humans Are Living Longer, and Healthier Lives

A large study of Medicare patients finds people are living longer -- and they are living those extra years in good health.

Researchers at Harvard University looked at survey responses and the medical records of ninety thousand medicare patients over an eighteen year period.

They were able to track each patient's health backwards -- starting with the year they died.

They found life expectancy increased -- and the period of time people spent in poor health was compressed until just before death.

They say people are eating healthier and exercising more, and modern medicine makes it possible to recover from what used to be fatal events -- like heart attacks and stroke.
