TACOMA, Wash. — After dropping its first three games of the season all by one goal, it was the Hardin-Simmons men’s soccer team chance to win a one-goal game as HSU defeated Puget Sound, 1-0 on Friday evening in Tacoma, Wash.
Kevin McNeal scored the Cowboys goal in the 52nd minute on a one-touch finish off a Tanner Coffin cross.
The Cowboys received great goalkeeping from a pair of keepers. Freshman Michael Vargas started and played the first 24 minutes and Sam Potter came on and finished off the shutout. It was the first action of the season for Potter, who had been nursing an injury.
Potter had four saves and Vargas had two as the Loggers outshot the Cowboys 12-8 overall and 6-3 on goal.
The Cowboys (1-3) will close out the Washington trip tomorrow at 9 p.m. CST against Pacific Lutheran. UPS fell to 1-3 with the loss.
