Cowboys Improve 10 Strokes In Second Round

BLANCO, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team shaved 10 strokes off its first round score but slipped a spot to seventh place overall at the John Bohmann Memorial that was played at the par-72, 6,884-yard Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco.

BLANCO, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team shaved 10 strokes off its first round score but slipped a spot to seventh place overall at the John Bohmann Memorial that was played at the par-72, 6,884-yard Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco.

The Cowboys had a much better outing on Tuesday as junior Ryan Hughes shave nine strokes off his score and led the team with a 74. Brandon Heard shot a pair of 76s and his 152 total was good for a tie for 15th. Hughes shot an 83 on Monday and shot 74 on Tuesday for a 157 total. Sean Aleman had 79s in both rounds for a 158 total.

Freshman Austin Prior shot a 77 in his second collegiate round after an 82 in the opening round for a 159 total and David Buzali shot 79-87 for a 166 total.

Southwestern won the team title with scores of 292 and 293 for a 585 total, which was 14 shots better than Concordia. Schreiner was third with a 600, Texas Lutheran and Trinity had 612 totals, texas-Dallas shot a 618, HSU a 622, TLU’s B team shot 632 and LeTourneau shot a 689.

HSU’s 306 on Tuesday was the fifth best round of the day.

Jimmy Keener of Schreiner won the medalist title with a 72-73-145.

HSU will next be in action at UMHB on Sept 23-24.
