GEORGETOWN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team fell to 0-2 on the young season with an 84-62 loss to Trinity in the Southwestern Invitational in Georgetown.
HSU was limited to 36.8 percent shooting by a stout Tiger defense. TU shot 49.3 percent in the game.
Trinity opened the game on a 13-4 run, but HSU scored seven straight points to make it 13-11. Trinity had a 12-4 run to open up a 28-16 lead with 7:09 to play in the first half. HSU cut it to 30-23 but that was as close as they could get it and TU led 39-23 at halftime.
Freshman Kourtney Holyfield scored 12 points to pace three Cowgirls in double figures. Taylor Klement had 11 points and Lauren Thomas added 10.
Caitlin Barrett led Trinity with 19 points.
The Cowgirls (0-2) will play Nov. 25 at home against Schreiner in its next action. Trinity improved to 2-0 on the year.
