ABILENE, Texas � Hardin-Simmons� softball team moved to 6-0 in American Southwest Conference action with a doubleheader sweep of Texas Lutheran (5-3 and 2-0) on Friday afternoon at Ellis Field.

The Cowgirls received a pair of solid pitching efforts in the two wins. Megann Lewis went the distance and allowed just three runs on nine hits while striking out two in the first game to even her record at 4-4.

In the nightcap, Sarah Shurbet tossed her seventh career shutout and moved to 2-4 on the year. She allowed just six hits and struck out two.

In the first game, Texas Lutheran scored a run in the top of the first when Amanda Edwards had a two-out RBI single. HSU answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and did not trail the rest of the day. Kelsey Evans was hit by a pitch with one out and Blair Wallace followed with a two-run home run to center to make it 3-1.

HSU added another run in the second when Jodi Hierholzer hit a grounder to pitcher Megan Carmichael and she bobbled it to allow Cera Beasley to score. In the third Shelby McIntyre had an RBI single to right to make it 4-1.

TLU added a pair of runs on four hits in the sixth. Carmichael had an RBI single and Katie Livanec had an RBI single as well. HSU added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by Amy Meyer.

Wallace had two hits and two RBIs to pace the Cowgirl six-hit attack. Nicole Hatley had three hits for Texas Lutheran.

Carmichael took the loss, but she allowed only two earned runs and struck out two. She is now 3-5 on the year.

The nightcap was all about pitching. The Cowgirls left the bases loaded in the first and TLU left them loaded in the fifth inning and the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. Meyer walked with one out moved to second on a Megan McCormick sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by Wallace. Taylor Namey followed with an RBI double to right to make it 2-0.

Wallace and Hierholzer had two hits each for the Cowgirls and Jordan Mundine and Lindsay Carroll had two hits each for TLU.

Mudine went the distance and allowed just two runs on six hits and fell to 4-5 with the load.

HSU has now won six straight to even its record at 9-9 on the year. Texas Lutheran fell to 7-11 overall and 0-2 in league play. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday.
