CPR Programs Save Lives

New research suggests programs to boost CPR awareness can save lives.
New research suggests programs to boost CPR awareness can save lives.

The data come from Denmark, a country where, 10 years ago, bystanders performed CPR in less than 20 percent of cases, and survival rates were only eight percent.

In order to improve these statistics, CPR training became mandatory in elementary schools. It was required to get a driver's license and free instruction kits were offered to residents.

During the 10 year period, the proportion of patients who were given CPR by a bystander more than doubled and the survival rates nearly tripled.
