Cross Plains Remembers The Fire Eight Years Later

The community of Cross Plains reflects on the painful memory of the fire that tore through their town eight years ago.
Today is a day that the people of Cross Plains will never forget. It was eight years ago today that a massive fire ripped through the town.

Two people were killed in the fire and more than 100 people lost their homes.

Firefighters from more than 30 departments were on hand trying to battle the flames. Many families watched their homes and community literally go up in flames. It took years and a lot of help to rebuild after the fire.

Even thought the cause is still unknown, there continues to be speculation that it started from a cigarette that was thrown out of a car on Highway 36.
