The Cooper Cougars are picked by many to win district 2-5A this year, but it's the Abilene High Eagles that are the Big Country's only 5A team ranked in the Top 25 by Harris Ratings. The Cougars fell just outside at number 27.
A total of two Class 3A schools made the top 25 to start the year. It should be no surprise that after a 13-1 season, the Wylie Bulldogs are once again ranked by Harris Ratings. The Bulldogs enter the season at number 13.
The Brownwood Lions are also picked to win their district this season, and sneak in at number 24 in Class 3A.
Only three schools found their way into the top 25 in Class 2A to start the season. While the Eastland Mavericks are picked by many to win the district this year, it's the Merkel Badgers ranked the highest at number 17. Eastland isn't far behind at 22.
The Cisco Loboes are the highest ranked Class 2A team from the Big Country, entering the season ranked at number four in division two.
The classification with the most teams ranked from the Big Country is Class 1A with a total of five. The Stamford Bulldogs are the highest ranked by Harris Ratings at number four in division one.
Their district rival, the Anson Tigers, round out the top ten. Along with the Goldthwaite Eagles, who enter the season ranked in the eighth spot.
A total of two Class 1A division two schools are also ranked in the top ten. Defending state champions Munday enter the season ranked at number five, and not far behind is the Albany Lions at number nine.
