District 4-3A is where we start. The Wylie Bulldogs are the District 4-3A favorites and they take on the Monahans Loboes in what Texas Football Magazine says will be the district championship game. The Bulldogs are led on the field by 19 returning letterman from 2012. That number includes preseason district defensive MVP Jaxon Bounds. Monahans was the favorite to win the title in 2012 and lost this match up with Wylie, and ended up losing the district championship. They hope to turn the tables this year.
Sticking with District 4-3A, the Sweetwater Mustangs have a chance to solidify their position as a playoff favorite against Midland Greenwood. The Mustangs are picked to take the 4th and final playoff berth from the district while Greenwood is picked to finish just ahead of Sweetwater in 3rd place. The Rangers return 10 starters from a team that went 3 rounds deep last year. Sweetwater just missed the post-season and feature BCH Sports Player to Watch Keagan Jeffery at quarterback. Jeffery is 1 of 12 starters that are back this year.
Now to District 8-3A, the Brownwood Lions face a team picked to go to the playoffs for the 2nd week in a row. Head coach Chuck Howard's team hosts Liberty Hill at Gordon Wood Stadium in Week 7. The Lions have 12 positions filled with starters from 2012 and are expected to field a strong defense. They will be tested by Liberty Hills strong rushing attack. The Panthers missed the playoffs last year, and they are looking to do better than the 3rd place finish they are predicted to post. Brownwood beat Liberty Hill last year, 32-18, it was part of a 4 game winning streak for the Lions.
Now to honorable mention for Week 7. The Eastland Mavericks and the Merkel Badgers get together at Badger Stadium in District 4-2A Division 1. Hamilton makes the trip to District 4-2A Division II favorite Cisco. Class A, the Hamlin Pied Pipers host Gorman.
