The Wylie Bulldogs and the Brownwood Lions renew their district rivalry for the first time in three years when they meet at Bulldog Stadium in Week 8. Both the Lions and the Bulldogs are expected to make it to the Class 4A Division I playoffs in the 2014 season, and this game will go a long way to determining the order of finish in the District 3-4A. Wylie will field a senior laden team, as usual. It will be a direct contrast to the Lions. Brownwood and head coach Chuck Howard will take the field with at least 11 underclassmen in the line up and as many as 6 sophomores.

The Sweetwater Mustangs continue play in District 2-4A with a road game with the Greenwood Rangers. Texas Football Magazine says 2nd and 3rd place will be on the line in this game. The Mustangs offense is led by quarterback Kaegan Jeffrey again in 2014 which means the offense is in good hands. Jeffrey threw for almost 2,800 yards in 10 games last season with 34 touchdown passes. His knowledge of the offense will be helpful this year with the addition of 6 new players to the starting offensive line up. Greenwood returns 8 starters on defense this season, so Jeffrey will be leading Big Red's offense against an experienced group on the other side of the ball.

Class 2A newbie Hawley makes the 10 mile drive up Highway 277 to Anson in a District 4-2A showdown in Week 8. Hawley drops from the old Class 2A to the reconfigured 2A this year after winning a playoff game for the 1st time school history in 2013. They are picked to finish the year at 3rd place in beast of a district that includes Anson, Stamford, and Windthorst. The Tigers are expected to overcome 2-time state State Champion Stamford for the district crown, and their game against the Bearcats will be a good test in the 2nd half of the season. Tigers running back Dustin Moore will carry a good deal of the load after rushing for over 1,000 yards in 2013.

Honorable mention games for Week 8 includes a game in Class 5A and a game in Class 3A. The Cooper Cougars drive up to Plainview to take on the Bulldogs, who are picked 4th in the district, and Brock, who is fielding a team in district competition for the 1st time is coming to district favorite Breckenridge.
