66 Years Later, Abilene Couple's Marriage Still Going Strong

An Abilene couple says the right ingredients to their marriage is learning to give and take. Bobbie and A.J. Draper celebrated their 66th anniversary Wednesday night at Gatti's Pizza with their children, friends, and great grandchildren.
An Abilene couple says the right ingredients to their marriage is learning to give and take.

Bobbie and A.J. Draper celebrated their 66th anniversary Wednesday night at Gatti's Pizza with their children, friends, and great grandchildren.

KTAB News covered their 56th anniversary as the couple renwed their vows. Ten years later, the couple are in their 80's and are still madly in love.

"I just couldn't get away from her," says A.J., the husband. "You really just have to love a lot."

The two met in Breckenridge a year before they got married. Life is simple for the couple, but its become a fulfilled romance with plenty of memories.

"He just had the prettiest green shirt with a red lobster," Bobbie, the wife said.

Sixty-six years later, the two have five children, 12 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. They say they've lived a great life, but manages to maintain a healthy marriage by dancing three times a week at Rose Park Senior Citizens Center.

"He shows me love every single day," adds Bobbie. "He gives me a kiss good morning and a kiss goodnight."

The couple hopes to celebrate a big anniversary when they reach 70 years.
