Abilene Celebrates Cinco de Mayo Early

Hundreds gathered at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church for their Cinco de Mayo celebration and softball tournament on Sunday.
Many people in Abilene decided to celebrate Cinco de Mayo early.

It was all about the Mexican heritage at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church as hundreds gathered for their Cinco de Mayo celebration and softball tournament. The 33rd annual event featured activities such as live music, folklorico dancers, food booths, and sombrero sales.

Some even brought chairs and blankets as they watched several live performances.

"It's not only celebrating our Hispanic culture," coordinator Richard Garcia said. "We even have cloggers from Breckenridge and Hawaiian dancers as a way to celebrate cultures together."

Organizers say this year's event was a success.
