Abilene Zoo Achieves New Accreditation

The Abilene Zoo has been named to a list of nearly 224 other zoos around the country that have achieved accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The Abilene Zoo has once again received accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

This high standard follows a thorough inspection from a group of experts from the AZA who carefully examine many aspects of the zoo from animal care to facility maintenance.

This is the second time the zoo has been accredited by the association. Previously, the zoo was AZA-accredited from 1985 until 2009. That's when the accreditation was suspended after deficiencies were discovered, including the lack of a full-time veterinarian.

Since then, the Abilene Zoo has made several improvements and upgrades, including the addition of Caribbean Cove, and has added a full-time veterinarian to the staff.
