The Eagles beat Odessa High on Friday night, 42-21, to post their 1st winning streak of the season, and possible new star was born.

Freshman Abram Smith burst on to the scene by scoring 2 touchdowns on his 1st 2 carries in varsity football, and he finished the night with 128 yards on 12 carries and 3 touchdowns.

Coach Warren said, "You don't know how they are going to respond metally to all the challenges they'll face during the course of a game. Physically, you would never put them in that arena if they couldn't handle it.  We knew about that part, but the rest of it came pretty natural to him. He did a really good job, and our offensive line took care of him. They gave him some good places to run, and he took care of the rest of it." He added, "That last touchdown run, he ran away from everybody and got up in the hole really quick. We are pretty proud of how he got off to a good start."

Abilene High has an open date this week, then they finish the regular season against Midland High. They have to beat the Bulldogs and get some help to get in the playoffs.
