Abilene Police Detective, Eric Vickers was flying out of DFW airport headed to the west coast when his plane had to make an immediate landing.

Vickers says the captain came over the intercom saying they lost air traffic control communication along with other flights in the western part of the United States.

Vickers' flight landed safely in Tucson, Arizona. They are now waiting until the problem is fixed. Early reports are that a computer glitch caused the loss of communication.

Detective Vickers was told that around 1,000 to 1,200 planes have been affected.
