Airplane Makes Emergency Landing at Abilene Regional Airport

An American Eagle plane had to make an emergency landing in Abilene Saturday afternoon.
An American Eagle plane had to make an emergency landing in Abilene Saturday afternoon.

Flight 2800 was heading from Dallas to Santa Fe, NM, when reports state that there was smoke coming from the cockpit. The plane with around 40 passengers on board landed at Abilene Regional Airport before 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters, police and EMS arrived on scene. Police say there may have been a technical issue inside the plane.

As of 5 p.m., crews were still inspecting the plane to ensure everything was safe. There were no reports of injuries.

According to AmericanAirlines.com, the flight is still expected to reach Santa Fe tonight and passengers will leave from Abilene at around 6:30 p.m.
