The Maidnes were able to jump out to an early 3-1 lead, and with Madison Homeyer on the mound it appeared that could be enough for the win. A strike-out by Homeyer would help keep the Lady Lions off the board early in the fifth inning.
A short time later the Lady Lions' bats would come to life though. With a runner on third the Lady Lions rolled the dice with the suicide squeeze. The Maidens were unable to get the out at home plate, and Albany would tie the game at 3-3.
The Lady Lions would go on from there to win by the count of 7-6, and win the district championship.
