"I moved to Abilene about a year ago from Fort Worth. I love volunteering and I love kids so I was just looking for a way to get plugged in," says Big Sister Heather Lam.

Joining Big Brothers Big Sisters proved to be the perfect fit for Lam.

"I'm a young professional in Abilene. I just needed a way to serve the community. Since young professionals, usually don't have that much money when they are first starting out, they want to donate their time," says Lam.

Lam spends her free time with Little Sis, Maegan and says it's been great to explore Abilene together.

"A lot kids just need a little extra love and passion in their life from somebody other than their family.  So that's why I got involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters," said Lam.

These two started out complete strangers but now are the best of friends.
