Brownwood's Weakley Watson Is Moving

Fishing poles, ammo, or running shoes, Weakley Watson has been a one stop shop for sporting goods for hundreds of years.
It's a staple in Brownwood - the Weakley Watson Hardware and Sporting Good Store. The building is rich with history, but the tenants have new plans for the store's future.

Weakley Watson has been located at 1414 Austin Avenue and 102 Fisk Street since 1867 and is a big part of Brownwood's history and as well as their future.

Chris Baker, a sales associate, says, "It's been here for a long time and there's a lot of people that come in here customer wise that remember it when they were kids, some of the older generation."

Weakley Watson is the oldest hardware store in Texas and the store is owned by David Furry.

Baker says, "My boss Jerry, he teaches you a lot about the history, we've got some pictures on the walls to kind of tell you the history about it."

And now 147 years later after J.C. Weakley and Lee Watson teamed up to open up the store, they have decided to move to a brand new location, located at 512 Early Boulevard. It is a convenient location which will bring in more customers.

Baker says, "We're excited about the new building, time for a change I think it will do us a lot of good business wise and we'll have a lot more stuff and we're ready to go."

The new store location will provide them with much more room where they will have a longer counter top to help display more guns. This store will be completed by January 2015. As for the historic building, it's there to stay in Brownwood.
