Tony Ramirez, General Manager of McAlister's Deli on Judge Ely Blvd says that he knows that the growth of the colleges over the next several years will bring competition, but he thinks that McAlister's will keep growing as well. He explained that each week since the north location has opened, sales have risen by 10%.
Rachael Castro has owned Los Arcos Mexican restaurant on Ambler Avenue for seventeen years. She says that they are happy that the area is expanding and thinks that the growth is good for Abilene. She said that she is thankful for the success that they have had so far, but says that expansion is not out of the question in the future.
Bethany Ingram, Assistant Manager of Nikki's Swirl Shoppe, says that the growth of the colleges is what she is most excited about. She knows that business is better when they are in school and she is very glad to see development on the north side of town.
There have been several new businesses on the north side of Abilene in the past several months. Golden Chick is now open on Highway 351, and Heff's Burgers is under construction right beside it. There is also a Dollar General under construction at the corner of Ambler and Old Anson Road. While this development will certainly not happen overnight, it seems that the north section of the Key City is well on its way to a bright future.
