Coleman is Back in the Saddle for the 77th Annual Rodeo

KTAB Reporter Ricky Ray was there for the beginning of the action.
A Texas rodeo can grab you by the horns. For Sarita Short, "It's just life I mean you know we've been in it since we were little and we've always been around it." Likewise, the Coleman County Rodeo has been around for many years. Heath Hemphill says, "This is the 77th annual Coleman rodeo."

Seventy seven years and still bringing excitment for all generations. Hemphill explains, "It's a big event it's probably the biggest event we have all year brings lots of money lots of people into town. It brings the community together for most of the full week. It's really a time where we have reunions people get together and it's just a good big week for the community."

A good week indeed as professional contestants from around the area drive to Coleman to show their skills. "Today in the steer roping we've got about 57 [professionals] all of the top 25 steer ropers are here. In all of the rodeo we've got 476 professional contestants," says Hemphill.

The Coleman County Rodeo was nominated for medium market rodeo in the nation last year by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.  This year there are over 450 contestants and 80,000 dollars in prize money.
