Cooper Defeats Abilene High In Crosstown Tennis

For the first time since 1996 the Cooper Cougars defeated the Abilene High Eagle tennis team in district on Tuesday evening.
For the first time in nearly two decades, the Cooper Cougars defeated the Abilene High Eagle tennis team in district on Tuesday evening.

The two crosstown rivals squared off in doubles to start the match at Abilene High.

The Cougars got wins from their mixed doubles pairing in Allison Robinett, and Seth Long got a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Beyer-Outland from Abilene High.

Cooper also got a big win from their boys doubles pair. Will Flanagan and Ethan Rodriguez took two sets from Aaron Andrews and John Henson by the count of 6-2, 6-4.

Abilene High didn't go quietly on Tuesday though. Their girls double pairing of Elizabeth Wiley and Rachel Funk took down Lavender Hackman and Leticia Alcantar in two sets 6-2, 6-4.

The Cougars would in the end get a 10-9 win over Abilene High. Their first over their rival in district play since 1996.
