Cooper Worked Hard During Open Week

Head coach Todd Moebes' and his team are coming into the playoffs off an open date.
The Cooper Cougars are in the playoffs for the 7th year in a row after finishing 3rd in District 2-5A in the regular season.

Head coach Todd Moebes' and his team are coming into the playoffs off an open date.

Many teams use the week off to rest up, and the Cougars did some of that.

They also used the last week to get better and tougher.

Coach Moebes said, "In a lot of our team sessions, we went varsity on varsity, you know, on offense and defense. It was good. It was competitive. That's my deal going into it. A lot of people think you need to kind of back off, but we did, certainly, at times, but we needed to get 15, 20 minutes of work in. If we need to do it, (We need to) do it hard to make sure our timing and everything stays consistent."

Quarterback Lorenzo Joe broke his hand in the Cougars loss to Central and had surgery last Monday. Coach Moebes said he hopes Joe will be ready to go on Friday night in the playoffs. He said his quarterback just has to get used to playing with a hard cast on his left hand.

Cooper opens the Class 5A Division playoffs with El Paso Coronado on Friday at 8pm in Midland. The Cougars are 11 and oh against schools from El Paso in the playoffs.
