The Cougars were able to strike first after a defensive stop with a long run by Trey Dye that got Cooper to the one year line. That was close enough for quarterback Lorenzo Joe to get into the endzone, and put Cooper up 7-0.
Abilene High would quickly respond with a touchdown of their own, but to an unconventional target. Derek Scott was able to find star defensive lineman Jake McMillon for the Eagles first touchdown pass of the night. That tied things up at seven a piece.
Cooper would respond to that score, and take a 14-10 lead into the second quarter. That's when Joe went back to work with a long touchdown run to give Cooper a 21-10 lead.
The Cougars would add another touchdown late in the quarter and lead 28-10 at the break.
Coming out of halftime Trey Dye would go back to work with two touchdowns in the third quarter. That would extend the Cooper lead to 42-10 and put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
