Close losses came back to bite the Cooper cougars for the second straight week at a 7on7 qualifier. The Abilene High Eagles on the other hand cruised to two straight wins in pool play.

The Eagles were able to pick up those wins today without the services of starting quarterback Derek Scott. It didn't slow down the Eagles offensive fire power, as they picked up a 34-21 win over Wollfforth Frenship in the opening game.

Abilene High then edged Lubbock Estacado by the score of 26-14 to end the day. The Eagles were ineligible to make it to the qualifying rounds due to the fact they qualified for the state tournament a week earlier in Abilene.

Meanwhile over in Pool D, the Cooper Cougars would also be impressive in their opening game.

The Cougars would cruise to a 67-6 victory over Lubbock Monterey to set up a winner-takes-all matchup with former district foe Odessa Permian for the pool victory.

Cooper would hold a slight advantage at 26-24 heading into halftime. The Panthers though would come out fighting in the second half to win by the count of 44-39.

The Panthers would fall in the qualifying round against District 3-6A foe San Angelo Central.
