County Uses Forfeited Money to Pay New Deputy

They've used confiscated drug money to pay for new equipment, but never for a new employee.
The Nolan Co. Sheriffs Dept. is in dire need of a new investigator.

They already have one, but as crime continues to spike in the area, they need more help.

However, there's a problem.

There's not enough money from general funds to pay for a new position, so commissioners agreed to allow the department to use money seized from drug busts, car and home seizures to supply the salary for a new investigator.

The department has been able to save up enough to fill the position for a year and plan to hire someone by Oct. 2013.

Commissioners will vote on how to continue paying that position once the year is up.
