TEMPLE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s golf team improved its score from round one to round two and finished ninth at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational at the par-72, 5,814-yard Wildflower Country Club in Temple.
The Cowgirls shot 360 as a team, which was a six-stroke improvement from the first round. Kylee Emerson led the Cowgirls with a pair of 86’s for a 172 total and a 27th place finish. Traci Tschirhart shot 91-89-180, Kacy Bartlett shot 93-90-183, Kara Doege had rounds of 96 and 05 for a 191 total and Cassi Smith improved seven strokes from 102 to 95 for a 197 total.
Alex Ibarra shot 102-97-199 playing as a medalist for the Cowgirls.
Western Texas College won the tournament with a two-round total of 631 to finish 10 strokes ahead of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tyler Junior College was third with a 642, Southwestern shot a 648 for fourth and Trinity shot a 670 to place fifth. HSU shot a 726 two-day total.
WTC’s Iben Hvass shot 74-77-151 to beat teammate Devanshi Nail 76-76-152 by one stroke.
HSU will play at the Al Jones Invitational next week in Tyler.
