The Eagles offense was led by sophomore running back Abram Smith at Shotwell Stadium, who rushed for the Eagles only touchdown in the live portion of the scrimmage, and broke two runs that would have resulted in scores earlier in the controlled portion.
Quarterback Derek Scott waited for the live session to display his best work against the Bulldawgs. The senior quarterback complete four of five passes against Cove's starting defense for 30 yards in the live quarter.
Abilene High's defense also brought their A-game in the live quarter, holding Copperas Cove to just 12 yards fo total offense. The Eagles also came up with a few turnovers on Friday afternoon.
"I thought we played hard today, and that was our number one goal, to play hard. Now we go back and evaluate. We've got to get better at the things we did well, and improve in a drastic way in the things we didn't do well," said head coach Steve Warren.
"It was really great to come out here with the seniors, and play my heart out for them every time I touch the ball. Just like they would for me," said running back Abram Smith.
"You know, we talked all along about his potential, and he hasn't arrived yet. He's learning how to work, and you saw flashes tonight fo the kind of back he can be," said Warren.
The Eagles open the season next Friday against Colleyville Heritage in the Champions Classic at Shotwell Stadium.
