The Eastland Mavericks enter the 2014 campaign with a new guy in charge.

Cliff Watkins takes over as the leader of the program, and his first order of business was finding a way to replace last year's Big Country player of the year in Josh Moylan.

Enter in Josh Gosnell, who after a strong summer, is fully entrenched under center.

Cliff Watkins said "He's doing a good job. He's being a leader in the huddle, which is definitely what you've got to have in that position, and he's still learning. Summer was good for him, but now incorporating all the run game and all the different stuff that we're doing it's a big learning curve for him, but he's doing a good job."

Josh Gosnell said "Overall we've all took this switch pretty good, and we've learned his plays and his offense and we're running good. He's a great coach, and I think we're going to be great this season."

Braden Blackwell said "Coach Watkins is a great coach. I think he's good for the program. Good for us, and I think he's going to do his best to do what's best for us. So, other than that yeah he's just a great coach."

Watkins said "The transition's been good, and they're excited to get started finally with football, and now ready for pads on Friday."

Now the Mavericks go into the fall with hopes of once again going undefeated in district play, and they kick off their season August 29th at Merkel.
