Prosecutors have dropped serious felony charges against an Abilene man with alleged ties to the Aryan Circle.

According to the FBI's website, the Aryan Circle is a branch of the Texas Aryan Brotherhood that mostly operates among inmates within the Texas prison system.

32-year-old Scott Glenn Weinstein was scheduled to stand trial this week on first degree felony charges of directing the activities of a street gang, but prosecutors dropped the charge after a Texas Rangers investigation.

When Weinstein was first arrested, he told Abilene police that he was recruiting for the Aryan Circle in Abilene, but the Texas Rangers said they could not find anybody that he had actually recruited into the Aryan Brotherhood.

However, Weinstein remains in the Taylor County jail on other felony charges of organized criminal activity.
