Fundraiser in Brownwood Supports Shooting Sports, Hunting Safety

The city of Brownwood hosted for the second time a fundraiser on Friday benefiting the NRA Foundation.
When it comes to exercising your 2nd Amendment rights, the NRA Foundation is right there supporting it.

On Friday, the Friends of the NRA in Brownwood held a fundraiser to support activities promoting firearms and hunting safety.

The NRA Foundation is a charitable organization in support of the shooting sports. It was established in October of 1992 and has since grown to support thousands of gun owners.

"We do nearly 1,100 banquets nationwide," Jack Cannon, West Texas Director said. "Last year, around $30 million was raised at banquets like the one in Brownwood."

The money will go toward youth shooting sports in Brownwood such as Boy Scouts, 4H, FFA, SETP, Junior ROTC, and local law enforcement. In addition, the funds will help with improving the shooting range.

This is the second year for Brownwood to host the event. A total of 2,300 grants were awarded and since its start, more than $230 million dollars have been raised.

"Obviously we want more people but that will come with time," says Cannon.

The event included a scratch-off, raffles, and both a silent and live auction.

The event happens once a year but it is also held in other cities such as Coleman, Comanche, and Abilene.
